McDonalds Restaurant Started
Fast food outlets. The company was founded as a barbecue restaurant by Richard and Maurice McDonald. In 1948, they reorganised the business as a self-service drive-in restaurant selling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, potato chips, pie and soft drinks. To date (2015) they have 36,000+ outlets worldwide. The photograph was taken in Woolwich, at the opening of their 3000th branch, which was also their first in Britain.
The Telegraph says that the first three McDonald’s in the UK were all on the sites of former Burton’s shops.
